Hi, my name is Jessica Necor and I'm a 20 year old Graphic Design major at the Laguna College of Art + Design and I've been a member of the international Catholic youth ministry CFC-Youth for the past six years. The community is a big part of my life and my service to God. It has taken me across the country to serve at national conferences on the Visuals team and in the summer of 2013 (July 18 to August 12), my work in the ministry will take me to the Philippines, for the first time with the organization ANCOP (Answering the Cry of the Poor).
For the past six years, my brothers and sisters in CFC Youth and I have put on a benefit worship night/Christian music concert called Sing for Joy. I don't know how to play any instruments or have an angelic singing voice, but I serve God and those around me by making promotional videos and designing the posters, tickets, and flyers. In the summer, we plan on making a documentary. The funds raised by Sing for Joy have done more than we ever could have imagined to uplift the lives of the poorest of the poor in the Philippines.
With our passion for the mission and lots and lots of hard work, we have successfully built 30 homes in Mayao Crossing, Lucena City, and are currently building 15 homes in Lopez, Quezon. We have sent over 150 young children to preschool, and have sent over 20 young adults to elementary, high school, and college. And in December, horrific Typhoon Bopha (click here to read about it) swept through southern Philippines and left 1.2 million families displaced.
In July 2013, the Sing for Joy team will make its first mission trip to build homes, help typhoon victims, and see the fruits of our labor for the very first time with our own eyes. Since I have never been to the Philippines, or even out of the country, this mission trip will be especially meaningful to me and I am excited to make a personal connection with the people my friends and I have helped.
I believe that helping the poor is essential to our spiritual growth and that our service to others will never end. This trip is a trip of a lifetime and is something I will carry in my heart for the rest of my life. It would mean the world to me if you can help me get there with the supplies to do the work I have been sent to do.
Donations please! As you know, plane tickets are very costly these days, and traveling to the Philippines and to the various villages will be my biggest expense ($1400). I will also be turning 20 this April (yay!) and instead of presents, donations will be greatly appreciated!
You can also check out my listings on the Poshmark iPhone app: @jnecor https://poshmark.com/closet/jnecor or hire me for freelance graphic design/web design work! email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
We also need to bring supplies to the villages to distribute to Typhoon Bopha victims. We need to purchase the items below. You can either donate the item or the money and we will purchase them.
Thank you for your support, prayers, and love, everyone who contributes to this project will get a free art print in the mail made by yours truly!
