Passion Project

For years I’ve heard about the importance of passion/side projects. After months of working on my own side project, I’ll be launching my own original handprinted textiles, accessories, and leather goods brand, Jessica Necor Studio, in the fall!

IMG_4190I studied all kinds of printmaking in high school and LOVED it, but took a long break to study graphic design in college. After graduating and interning at Vans for 6 months, I ventured back into block printing for my final intern project. I designed shoes digitally for months and making patterns with my hands felt amazing!

When I moved to Portland, Oregon for my next internship, I found a bustling and abundant maker culture rich with resources and community. I started taking classes at ADX Portland (and used their studios on the weekends), then at Modern Domestic and Klum House. All while still working at a digital agency. Working with my hands felt so good and brought balance to my work life where I stare at screens all day and help design for the connected age.

I started doing small projects at night in the bedroom I rented, then ramped up when I had a (slightly, not by much) bigger space. Getting mentored by the amazing Ellie Lum from Klum House helped push me in the right direction. The maker community in Portland is amazing and I was so inspired by other makers who also lived and worked here.

So Jessica Necor Studio is my passion project, and I’m so happy to share it with you! Making and experimenting brings me a lot of joy and I’m excited to see everything grow and change.

July Poster a Day Challenge: Week 2

Some of my coworkers at R/GA had the idea of doing a daily poster challenge for the month of July. We’d take turns coming up with prompts for the day and had to post an 18″x24″ poster every day except weekends.

Here’s what I came up with for the second week:

Day 6: Girl’s best friend

Day 7: Weirdest thing in my bag/purse (an old banana peel..)

Day 8: Something that’s nostalgic/a throwback

Day 9: Inspire people in our office to wash their own dishes (our temporary building doesn’t have a dishwasher haha)

PAD-day-09

Day 10: Dreamin’

Week three didn’t go as well so we’ll see how many more days we all do!

July Poster a Day Challenge: Week 1

Some of my coworkers at R/GA had the idea of doing a daily poster challenge for the month of July. We’d take turns coming up with prompts for the day and had to post an 18″x24″ poster every day except weekends. I was totally down to participate, I’ve always wanted to do some kind of daily challenge but never stayed with it. Here’s what I came up with for the first week:

Day One: Anything that holds liquid

PAD_day-01

Day Two: Small and furry all over

PAD_day-03

Day Three: Upside down

PAD_day-02

Day Four: Lyrics from a favorite song

PAD_day-04

Day Five: Stripes

PAD_day-05

For today’s post I felt like I needed to respond somehow to what’s going on in our country, even if it was simple and without words. Love more, stand together. Black lives matter.

Stay tuned for the rest of July!

Late to the Game

So I’ve tried to start a blog a million times on a million different platforms. I used to have one on my portfolio but didn’t like the layout, and realized two years later that I could just install WordPress on a subdomain. So here we are!

Hi, I’m Jessica, a visual designer at R/GA, living and working in beautiful Portland, Oregon. Originally from the Bay Area with a short stint in Laguna Beach for college, I’m happy to call the Pacific Northwest home.

I’m not sure exactly what I’m envisioning for this, but expect lots of design things, Portland things, and maker things. I’m launching a new project in the fall, so stay tuned for the process!
